Homer JazzFest '08
We are pleased to announce the Second annual Homer JazzFest.
Our first year was a resounding success thanks to the inspiration, motivation and passion of Peggy Stern who headlined our main event and concluded the festival with her trio performing across the bay at Jazz in the Cove. Many thanks to Jovino Santos Neto, Estrella Trio, The Alaska Jazz Workshop and Dan McElrath for the fabulous music they provided to make the festival so rich and rewarding.

Homer’s Garden of Music
The definition of a garden as a fertile, well-cultivated region describes our community beautifully. Artrageous August has provided us with Folk, Rock, Classical, Opera and Jazz. A riot of color and texture that has entertained and inspired us this season. The JazzFEST committee is honored to be part of such a rich, lovely and diverse musical arboretum.
Some of you prepared the soil for this season of music, some brought the seeds, other’s tilled or toiled. Howard would probably say that some of us brought the fertilizer while still others nurtured our musical garden in numerous ways.
In the fall of 2006, the dream of a Homer Jazz Festival began to take shape as a reality. That October, Pauli and Harmon Hall brought Jazz Pianist Peggy Stern to Homer, believing that her passion and vision would be the catalyst we needed to form what has become the Homer JazzFEST. That first year shaped the idea, and the partnership with HCOA provided the framework for the festival to build on.
The JazzFEST team has met almost weekly since Peggy Stern showed us that we could make this dream come true. The love for Jazz and our community has drawn each of us to the task despite moments of doubt, fatigue and frustration. The anticipation of great performances and awe-inspiring educational experiences has motivated and guided our efforts.
The JazzFEST team: Howard, Dave, Eric, Gaye, Harmon, Hope, Jocelyn, Joel, Mary, Pauli, Sam, Tia, Tom and I appreciate your cultivation of this community’s garden of music.
Thank you for this bouquet of Jazz
